  "Description": "Calculates the American National Standards Institute\n(ANSI) S3.5-1997 Speech Intelligibility Index (SII) (ANSI,\n1997), a standard method for computing the intelligibility of\nspeech from acoustical measurements of speech, noise, and\nhearing thresholds. This package includes data frames\ncorresponding to Tables 1 - 4 in the ANSI standard as well as\nfunctions utilizing these tables and user-provided hearing\nthreshold and noise level measurements to compute the SII\nscore. The methods implemented here extend the standard\ncomputations to allow calculation of SII when the measured\nfrequencies do not match those required by the standard by\napplying interpolation. The package also includes a native C++\nimplementation of the 'AUDMOD' specific loudness model for\nimpaired hearing (Bramslow, 2004), ported from the\n'bramslow2004' implementation in the Auditory Modeling Toolbox\n(AMT), to calculate loudness in sones. It provides methods to\npredict aided SII under hearing aid prescriptive rationales,\nincluding Open-NL (Open Non-Linear), a theoretical optimization\nframework that uses a Nelder-Mead simplex search to maximize\nthe SII (by default with the Johnson and Dillon (2011)\ndesensitization correction), subject to loudness penalties and\nsimulated Maximum Power Output (MPO) constraints. Further\nfunctions calculate real-ear insertion gains, estimate maximum\npower output (SSPL90), and prescribe dynamic range compression.\nOpen-NL and the prescription functions are research tools for\ntheoretical modeling and simulation; they have not been\nclinically validated and are not intended for fitting hearing\naids to patients. Development of this package was originally\nfunded by the Center for Bioscience Education and Technology\n(CBET) of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT).",
